Water-based fluxes: efficiency and sustainability in electronics production

Emil Otto's water-based fluxes are the ideal solution for companies that focus on quality, process reliability and environmental protection in SMD soldering. The fluxes offer a future-proof alternative to conventional fluxes and ensure reliable, clean solder joints. Fluxes now play a central role in modern electronics production, as they are an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional, alcohol-based fluxes.

In the course of the customer-specific development of fluxes, our customers repeatedly expressed the desire for sustainable products. As a sustainability-oriented company, we have taken this request into account and developed a broad portfolio of ecological fluxes for soldering.

We were not only interested in an ecological end product, but also in environmentally friendly production and simplified transportation. Our "Green Line" products are water-based. As they are therefore completely biodegradable, they are not classified as hazardous goods and do not pollute the environment. Instead, the "Green Line" products can be transported, handled and stored in the conventional way. Simple, conventional storage in particular represents considerable added value for our customers.

The products from the "Green Line" series include fluxes for wave soldering. All fluxes can be used on the production systems known on the market. The soldering results correspond to those achieved with alcohol-based fluxes can be achieved. You can therefore easily switch to ecological, water-based fluxes.

Water-based fluxes from Emil Otto are ideal for various soldering processes in component production and cable assembly and offer a number of advantages:

Environmental friendliness

Water-based fluxes are not hazardous goods, are not flammable and do not contain any volatile organic compounds (VOCs). This minimizes health risks for employees and the environment. It also reduces occupational health and safety requirements.

Cost efficiency

Water-based fluxes are not hazardous goods. This reduces the costs for transportation, storage, environmental protection measures and compliance with legal regulations. In addition, water-based fluxes ensure lower material consumption thanks to precise dosing.

High process reliability

Water-based fluxes provide uniform wetting of the solder joints and ensure excellent activation even at low temperatures. They ensure a clean soldering pattern and meanwhile achieve drying times that are in no way inferior to those of alcohol-based fluxes.

Optimized cleaning

After the soldering process, water-based flux residues can be easily removed with water or mild detergents. Cleaners remove. This reduces the need for aggressive chemical cleaning agents and protects the components.

By using water-based fluxes, companies are actively helping to protect the environment by conserving natural resources and reducing CO₂ emissions by not using solvents. At the same time, strict environmental requirements are met and a contribution is made to improving the sustainability balance.
