Emil Otto develops flux cover for surface protection

Emil Otto has developed the Flux-Cover PFS-001 for the surface protection of component connections. The product will be presented to the specialist public for the first time at productronica 2019.

"Our new Flux-Cover is an aqueous, milky liquid that is used to coat the surfaces of component connections and provides reliable, solderable protection," says Markus Geßner, Head of Marketing and Sales at Emil Otto GmbH, introducing the new product. "We have proven in various experiments that the Flux-Cover PFS-001 withstands gassing with sulphur dioxide (SO2), among other things. The Cu surface of the sample showed no signs of attack. The subsequent solderability test was completed with very good results," continues Geßner. The Flux-Cover ensures a good soldering result, especially for components that are difficult to wet, such as THT components with nickel-brass pins. The Flux-Cover is compatible with all Emil Otto fluxes.

The coating of component connections should preferably be applied by dipping the connections into the Flux-Cover. The immersion depth for optimum coating must be determined by the user. If the components are assembled immediately after the coating process, they can be processed directly. In the case of automatic assembly, subsequent drying is required. The subsequent wave soldering process can be carried out as usual, i.e. the selected parameters generally do not need to be changed.

If the coated parts are not to be processed immediately but stored, the coatings must be dried immediately and completely before storage. This is the only way to prevent dirt or other materials from adhering. Depending on the amount of surface protection applied, experience has shown that drying for 15 minutes at 120°C is sufficient. Subsequent storage can take place at room temperature. Coated components removed from storage can be processed without further pre-treatment.

The viscosity of the Flux-Cover can be adjusted by the user by adding EO SPECIAL THINNER PFS-V / WB. The Flux-Cover is now available in packaging units of 100 g. Emil Otto will be presenting the new product at productronica 2019 in Munich in Hall A4, Stand 420.
