Emil Otto massively expands the cleaning media product area

Emil Otto will be presenting a range of new cleaning media to the specialist public at SMT 2018. The portfolio expansion includes the Etimol cleaning products from the areas of stencil cleaning, cleaning of soldering systems and dosing equipment, including conformal coating systems, assembly cleaners and cleaners for soldering and conformal coating frames. The new products should be seen as a supplement to the existing range.

In recent years, the Hessian supplier company has recorded increasing sales in the field of cleaning media. "For this reason, we have decided to expand our product range and have also paid attention to special applications," explains Markus Geßner, Head of Marketing and Sales at Emil Otto GmbH. The largest group of new developments is stencil cleaning.

A total of six new stencil cleaners can be found in Emil Otto's new range. The majority are intended for use in fully automatic washing systems. The concentrates are diluted with water and reliably remove residues from leaded, lead-free and so-called no-clean solder pastes, as well as SMT adhesives. The pH-neutral mixtures have very good compatibility with other stencil materials. Compared to standard cleaners, the innovative formulation achieves high
bath load values have been achieved, so that the intervals between bath changes can be significantly extended and the amount of waste for disposal can be significantly reduced in some cases. Care has also been taken to ensure that μ-GBA and fine-pitch stencils can also be cleaned without any problems. Two underside cleaners for stencils are also included in the range. These can be used in a wet cleaning process in conjunction with cleaning rollers or fleece following solder paste and adhesive printing. Thanks to the innovative homogeneous formulation and optimum drying behavior
This avoids the frequently observed phenomena of streaking and smearing of solder paste components.

Another group are maintenance cleaners for reflow ovens and other soldering systems. These water-based, alkaline cleaning media efficiently remove flux residues and outgassing from printed circuit boards from condensate traps and machine parts. Thanks to the foam-free formulation, these products can be used in compressed air-assisted systems and spray systems, usually without the addition of defoaming agents. The machine cleaners are rounded off by cleaning media that have been specially developed for SMT ovens, wave and selective soldering systems and vapor phases. These media are foaming and achieve an excellent cleaning effect. They can be used without further ado on systems with residual heat.

New cleaning agents have also been developed for dispensing and conformal coating applications. The product Etimol NC 88 RSN is a solvent-based, pH-neutral medium that is especially suitable for cleaning nozzles and dispenser needles from solder paste and SMT adhesive residues. It is used at room temperature in suitable cleaning systems, e.g. ultrasonic baths. The process can be accelerated with an increased cleaning temperature between 40-55°C. In this case, a better cleaning result is also achieved. The items to be cleaned are then rinsed with DI water. Cleaning media have also been developed for removing silicone paints from painting frames, as used in conformal coating. These cleaning media are based on non-flammable solvents and therefore increase work safety.

The new product range is rounded off by an assembly cleaner. The water-based, alkaline cleaning concentrate Etimol DFX 80 CA is mixed with one part concentrate and 4-5 parts DI water. It efficiently removes flux residues from electronic assemblies. It can be used in both spray and ultrasonic systems.

Emil Otto will be presenting the new products at SMT 2018, in Hall 4A, Stand 144.
