Alcohol-based fluxes for efficient electronics manufacturing
Alcohol-based fluxes play a central role in electronics production. They ensure reliable soldering processes, stable connections and high process reliability. As Emil Otto, we offer one of the most comprehensive portfolios on the market in this segment: more than 60 different alcohol-based fluxes are available, all formulated halogenide-free and optimized for almost every process and application.
Our product spectrum ranges from classic no-clean solutions to fluxes for demanding reflow, wave soldering and selective soldering processes.
Alcohol-based fluxes: High activity and excellent wetting
Alcohol-based fluxes impress, even with complex PCB architectures, thanks to their high activity and excellent wetting, which enables clean and reproducible soldering results. The majority of our variants are designed as no-clean products and are formulated to be halide-free, which significantly reduces the amount of cleaning required after the soldering process.
In practice, it has been shown that washing the soldered circuit boards can usually be completely dispensed with if used correctly.

Alcohol-based fluxes: quality testing and process stability
The development and quality testing of our alcohol-based fluxes includes wetting behavior, residue pattern, material compatibility and process stability. All our alcohol-based fluxes meet the technical requirements of industrial electronics production in accordance with IPC J-STD-004 and support reproducible and safe processes, which apply to both lead-free and lead-containing solder alloys. Low process costs due to reduced rework and improved production processes are a direct result of this product quality.
Application range of alcohol-based fluxes: wave, reflow and selective soldering
Our alcohol-based fluxes are suitable for a wide range of industrial soldering processes:
- High activity for optimum wetting even with complex PCB geometries
- Clean and reproducible solder joints with little residue
- Suitable for wave, reflow and selective soldering processes as well as hand soldering and repairs
- No Clean variants reduce cleaning processes and lower operating costs
- Formulated halide-free and compatible with common solder alloys and pastes
- Low solids content (approx. 2-5 wt.-%) for clean results
- Compliant with IPC J-STD-004 - suitable for lead-free and lead-containing processes
- Cost-efficient thanks to reduced rework and stable process windows
- Stable process for complex PCB layouts and demanding substrates
- More than 60 different product variants for optimum process customization
Select the right flux depending on the soldering process
The choice of a suitable alcohol-based flux depends largely on the soldering process used. Products with a low solids content and high thermal stability are recommended for wave soldering. For selective soldering, the focus is on targeted application and minimal spattering. For hand soldering and repair applications, our Multiflux variants offer the necessary flexibility.
