Starting in 2027, we will largely transition our production to renewable energy

Starting in January 2027, we will meet our entire electricity demand with renewable energy. Our supply is certified by Scholt Energy through the end of 2029. Together with our own photovoltaic system and the continued electrification of our production processes, we are thereby reducing energy-related CO₂ emissions at our Eltville site.

Starting January 1, 2027, we will reach an important milestone in our sustainability strategy. Going forward, we will meet our entire electricity demand at our Eltville am Rhein production site with renewable energy. The combination of our own photovoltaic system, certified green electricity, and the electrification of our facilities enables us to significantly reduce energy-related CO₂ emissions. Our supply of 100% electricity from renewable energy sources is confirmed by a green power certificate from our energy partner, Scholt Energy, for the period from January 2027 through December 2029.

„Sustainability and the responsible use of resources are essential components of our long-term corporate development. As a fifth-generation family-owned business, we rely on concrete technical measures that enable us to improve the energy efficiency of our production, increasingly replace fossil fuels, and sustainably reduce our energy-related CO₂ emissions. With the transition of our electricity supply starting in 2027, we are consistently continuing on this path. Our goal is to operate our production processes largely without the use of fossil fuels in the future.“

Our own photovoltaic system has been generating solar power since early 2026

As early as the beginning of 2026, we commissioned a photovoltaic system with an installed capacity of 30 kWp on one of our production buildings in Eltville. Since then, we have been generating a portion of the electricity needed for our operations directly on-site using solar energy. A unique feature of this system is its connection to our own product portfolio. All key components of the installed photovoltaic system—the solar modules, inverters, and energy storage system—were manufactured using our fluxes.

This means our technology is present in all key areas of the energy system. Our fluxes are used in the manufacture of the components needed for the generation, conversion, and storage of solar energy. For us, this completes a special cycle, because our fluxes contribute to the production of the components that make up our photovoltaic system. This system, in turn, generates renewable energy that we use for our own production. It is precisely this cycle that lies behind our guiding principle, “Coming Home – Made with Emil Otto”.

Certified green electricity for our production from 2027 to 2029

On January 1, 2027, we will take the next step. Starting on that date, we will source the electricity that we cannot generate ourselves through our photovoltaic system from renewable energy sources. The fact that our electricity consumption is fully covered by renewable energy is confirmed by a green energy certificate from our energy partner, Scholt Energy. The certificate is valid for the period from January 1, 2027, through December 31, 2029, and certifies that 100 % of our electricity consumption is covered by electricity from renewable energy sources.

This establishes a binding foundation for our sustainable electricity supply over the next three years. The combination of our own solar power generation and certified green electricity enables us to meet our production’s electricity needs entirely through renewable energy sources. For us, this certification is an important component of our sustainability strategy. It documents the origin of our electricity supply and underscores our commitment to continuously reducing the use of fossil fuels in our production.

Further Electrification of Our Production Processes

In addition to transitioning our power supply, we are working on the gradual electrification of our production processes. Even today, only a few applications still rely on gas as an energy source. We also intend to convert these remaining processes to electric operation in the foreseeable future. This will allow us to further reduce our use of fossil fuels and lay the groundwork for a largely low-emission energy supply for our production in the long term. The combination of our own photovoltaic system, certified green electricity, and the electrification of our facilities is a crucial step for us toward significantly reducing energy-related CO₂ emissions at our Eltville site.

Sustainability Through Technology and Process Optimization

For us, sustainability is not a single, isolated measure, but rather the result of various technical and organizational developments. These include the continuous optimization of our production processes, the efficient use of energy and resources, and the integration of renewable energy into our operational infrastructure. Our in-house photovoltaic system and certified green electricity supply are therefore key components of a long-term strategy. At the same time, the example of our photovoltaic system demonstrates the contribution our products can make to the development of modern energy technologies.

Our fluxes are used in electronics manufacturing and the solar industry, among other sectors, where they help create reliable electronic connections. The fact that these technologies now also contribute to our own energy supply makes this project particularly special to us.

Another milestone in our sustainability strategy

By completely transitioning our electricity supply to renewable energy sources starting in 2027, we will reach an important milestone on the path to lower-emission production. We will continue to work on further developing our processes, optimizing our use of resources, and tapping into additional opportunities to reduce our CO₂ emissions.
