Flux for the Manufacture of TOPCon and Heterojunction Solar Cells

Emil Otto’s alcohol-based Fast Dry fluxes enable faster drying and lower preheating temperatures. As a result, they support gentle processing of TOPCon and heterojunction solar cells, as well as stable soldering processes in solar module manufacturing.

Alcohol-Based Fast Dry Fluxes for Reduced Thermal Stress in Solar Module Manufacturing

In the manufacture of modern photovoltaic modules, the demands on process stability, material compatibility, and energy efficiency are constantly increasing. Controlled thermal process management is particularly crucial for TOPCon and heterojunction solar cells, as these cell technologies can be sensitive to unnecessary heat input.

With a portfolio specifically tailored to the solar industry, Emil Otto offers consumables for key process steps in module manufacturing. These include solar fluxes for stable and durable solder joints, solar flux gels for precise applications in sensitive areas, cleaning products to ensure efficiency and module performance, and tube solders for reliable electrical connections.

A particular focus is on solar fluxes for the manufacture and interconnection of TOPCon and heterojunction cells. For all purely alcohol-based fluxes, Emil Otto offers so-called “Fast Dry” variants, or FD variants for short. These were developed to accelerate drying processes while simultaneously reducing the thermal stress on the solar cells during processing.

„The use of modern fluxes is particularly important in the manufacturing of these two cell types. Our alcohol-based FD variants dry up to ten times faster than conventional fluxes. This allows us to operate at a lower preheating temperature, which means TOPCon and heterojunction cells are exposed to less thermal stress during production. This supports the longevity of the solar cells and reduces the energy consumption of the process.“

EO-S-009 FD for Reliable Soldering Processes in Solar Module Manufacturing

Our EO-S-009 solar flux in the FD version is currently in particularly high demand. This is a halide-free, no-clean flux designed for soldering solar modules, tabber and stringer materials, and for joining solar cells.

The EO-S-009 FD supports stable solder joints without leaving behind sticky residues. The solids content is 1.8 %. At the same time, the flux is non-corrosive and is therefore designed for reliable joining processes in photovoltaic manufacturing.

Rapid drying allows preheating processes to be designed more efficiently. This is particularly relevant for cell technologies in which the combination of high electrical performance and gentle processing plays a central role. Reduced thermal stress can help ensure the long-term quality of cell interconnects and lower energy consumption in the manufacturing process.

„As a manufacturer of consumables for the solar industry, we help to increase the quality and efficiency of photovoltaic systems. The products used support reliable connection technology and the sustainable use of modules. These are key factors for the global energy transition.“

Consumables for Stable Processes in Photovoltaic Manufacturing

With its solar fluxes, flux gels, cleaning agents, and tube solders, Emil Otto supports manufacturers of photovoltaic modules in implementing stable and reproducible manufacturing processes. The FD variants of the alcohol-based solar fluxes offer a specific process-related advantage: They accelerate drying, reduce the required heat input, and support gentle processing of sensitive cell technologies such as TOPCon and heterojunction.

This provides a solution for industrial solar module manufacturing that combines process reliability, material compatibility, and energy efficiency.

Fast Dry flux dries significantly faster than conventional fluxes. This allows the preheating temperature in the process to be reduced. This minimizes the thermal stress on sensitive TOPCon and heterojunction solar cells and facilitates gentle cell contacting.
